Shocking: Jesika Tothova lay down on train tracks after worrying about her school report

A schoolgirl lost both legs after throwing herself under a train as she attempted suicide because she was worried about her school report.

Jesika Tothova, 15, from Pezinok, Slovakia, was reduced to tears when her grades were revealed and told friends she was terrified of telling her parents.

After failing maths, physics and chemistry she decided she would rather die than tell her parents and lay across the train tracks near the Pezinok railway station.

The train driver told police it had been impossible to stop and the vehicle had run over the girl, severing both of her legs.

Police spokesman Michal Szeiff said: "When the engine driver spotted her he pulled the hand brake immediately but he was not able to avoid the crash.

"The train amputated her right leg's tibia and her left foot."
Tragic: The train driver said he could not stop in time after spotting Jesika on the tracks near to Pezinok station

Jesika had been studying at a grammar school in Pezinok.

A teacher, who did not want to be named, said: "This is horrible. We did not have any problems with her at school except that in some subjects she was weak.

"This was only a half-year report anyway and she could still have improved her results by the end of the school year."

Headteacher Jana Solgova, 50, said: "We are very devastated and we are sorry for this. We had never expected something like this from a school report."

Jesika's schoolmate, who also did not want to be named, said: "We knew that she was worried about the results but we never thought she would do something like this."

Jesika was transported to Children's University Hospital in the capital Bratislava.

Hospital spokesperson Dana Kamenicka said: "Her condition is not life threatening."
