But the latest cast photos for the second half of season five of AMC's The Walking Dead seem to give the remaining survivors a bit of hope.
Unlike darker photos shared at the beginning of the season, the portraits show the cast looking resolute - some almost smiling - while a bright light streams in behind them.

Hope seems to be a theme for this second half of the season, as AMC's teaser for the February 8 return says: 'Beyond fear, find hope.'
It doesn't end there, however, as unlike in previous seasons where one member acted as the group's motivational speaker, encouraging them to go on, it seems that everyone's picking up the slack this season.
